Sue is the Competitive Team Head Coach as well as one of our optional coaches. She oversees our Xcel Program plus Compulsories. Sue has coached gymnastics for over 35 years. During this time, Sue has had many individual event and all-around State Champions as well as various teams of all levels place in the top ten in the state, many in the top five. She has also worked with college gymnasts specializing in beam and floor. Sue is a graduate of Slippery Rock University with a degree in Physical Education and Lifetime Fitness. She has various certifications in safety and first aid to compliment her coaching credentials. Prior to starting her coaching career, Sue competed in four events for her high school and college teams. Sue is married to Al Shaffer and has three daughters.
Marybeth is our Ninja Zone program coordinator and pre-school class teacher. She grew up in Massachusetts and graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a degree in business. Marybeth moved to Pennsylvania in 2010 with her husband and two young children. She was a competitive gymnast for nine years and continues to pursue her love for the sport by coaching.
Marybeth has been at Lions gymnastics since 2010. In the time that, she has coached state champions on floor, beam and vault. She loves teaching the fundamentals to her young gymnast and preparing them for their competitive career!
Marybeth is a professional USAG coach and has attended clinics, pre-school seminars, and safety certification programs to continually improve her knowledge and level of expertise.
